T.G.I.F. Community Guidelines
Welcome to our inclusive writing community! TGIF is a free open space for writers of all backgrounds, experience levels, and genres to share, grow, and connect. We meet every Friday from 8-10pm ET.
To ensure everyone feels safe and welcome, please keep these nine community guidelines in mind:
Respect & Confidentiality
Constructive criticism is vital to growth, but should always be delivered respectfully. Discussions and details about shared work are confidential.
Attendance
Regular attendance is encouraged to maintain continuity and build rapport, but is not required.
Expectations
We expect that writers will work on and share a piece of writing in each session to facilitate meaningful exchange. This can be part of a work-in-progress.
Consider Your Audience
We’re a diverse group with varied experiences and comfort levels. When in doubt, offer a brief content note before sharing (feel free to check in with the moderator first).
Respect Boundaries
If someone requests that you stop reading or asks to skip certain content, please honor that immediately and without question or argument.
Keep it Appropriate
We welcome diverse genres and honest storytelling, but please avoid sharing content with graphic depictions of violence or child abuse. This is also not an appropriate forum to share explicit sexual content.
No Hate Speech
Content that targets, demeans, or diminishes people based on identity, background, or beliefs has no place in our workshop.
Assume Good Intent
We’re all here to grow as writers and support each other. It’s likely we’ll make mistakes along the way, but we ask that you come to the workshop with good intent and assume the same in others.
Wheaton's Law
Remember we’re all human; everyone has different triggers and comfort zones, often ones they’re not aware of themselves. We’ve outlined these guidelines to help, but be prepared to adapt.
